In 1893 Alessandro Tabacchi opens a butcher's shop near Piazza del Popolo. At the time, this large Piazza used to turn into an immense enclosure where animals chosen for slaughter were driven twice a month from the farms north of Rome.
In 1964 the shop passed on to Annibale Mastroddi who restored it, preserving the original furniture and structure.
The counter that dominates the room is a true work of art. Made of white Carrara marble, with a base in red marble, it has a bronze bas-relief representing oxen at pasture.
Among the past and present customers of the shop - where tradition and art meet and harmonise - Vittorio Gasmann, Gigi Magni, Monica Vitti and Roberto Benigni.
